Satan doesn’t know how long we have on earth.
God determines the number of our days.
So what Satan does is create unending distractions to steal as much of our time on earth as possible, hoping our time expires while we are still chasing distractions.
While theres dopamine and deliberate programming to bring about phone addiction, there’s still something spiritual about phone addiction just like all other addictions.
It’s one of the tactics Satan uses today that is so easy to fall into, myself included, but we have to recognize it as a sin like all other addictions because God wants to be first in our lives.
Personally there are times I feel smart phones are sort of like a “curse,” to humanity in many ways and our relationship with God could in many ways be much better if they didn’t exist.
We are a generation that really needs the fruit of self control in this manner because even with godly content sometimes we could still find ourselves spending more and more time on our phones and less and less time in our closet.
Once someone spends so much time on their phone they will feel unmotivated to do spiritual things like praying or studying the Bible and God’s presence will seem undesirable.
On the other hand, once you force your flesh to submit and get into a habit of spending much time with God,you realize the joy of His presence and that everything else out there was truly meaningless and true peace and satisfaction is in God’s presence.
You will not feel like leaving.
But the warfare will still continue to break you off from this fellowship and again the less time you begin to spend with God, the more desirable things outside of His presence will become.
We are in spiritual warfare and our phones are part of that warfare.
We have to intentionally nurture our relationship with Jesus and intentionally fight phone addiction.
PRACTICAL STEPS TO OVERCOME PHONE ADDICTION
•Recognize it as a sin of idolatry and not merely a bad habit.
•Develop specific prayer times in your day that must be honored without compromise unless its an impossible situation thats when you can reschedule.
•Buy a small pocket size New Testament bible you carry carry around to read throughout the day.
•Whenever you feel the urge to reach for your phone, reach for your small bible instead. The digital bible makes it easy to be distracted.
•Get into a fast against phone addiction.
•Develop a habit to not touch your phone to scroll or use in the morning until you have fulfilled your morning prayer(e.g 30 minutes or 1 hour etc).
•Develop a habit to put your phone away atleast an hour before bed and instead end the day with God.
•Delete apps that make you spend so much time online and only install them when necessary.
•Live a fasted life by fasting not less than once per week to have spiritual strength to overcome.Fasting aligns your desires better with God.
•Always ask Jesus for strength to overcome all the addictions of our time.
Do not feel condemned or defeated and give up.Take your burden to Jesus while implementing the above and any other steps you may know to help you defeat addiction.
